Four persons have been jailed in the UK for forging more than 2,000 marriage certificates, in order to illegally assist people who are desperate to remain in the UK. The conviction handed down by the Woolwich Crown Court in London was described as an exploitation of people’s desperation by the Home Office Chief Immigration Officer, Paul Moran
The four persons who were jailed include: Adekunle Kabir, Nosimot Gbadamosi, Abraham Onifade and Abayomi Shodipo. It was reported that Home Office alleged that the accused were part of a syndicate criminal group that specialize in making fraudulent European Union Settlement Scheme applications for desperate Nigerians, implemented through procurement of false customary marriage certificates among other documents to assist applicants to avoid deportation and remain in the country.
With the UK prosecution having closed its case, the court found Onifade and Shodipo guilty of conspiracy to facilitate illegal entry into the UK while conspiring to provide articles used in fraud. They were sentenced to six years and five years of imprisonment, respectively.

Gbadamosi who was found guilty of deception and false representation fraud was jailed for six years while Kabir was jailed for nine months for being in possession of an identity document to deceive.
In further reaction to the conviction, the Home Office Chief Immigration Officer, Paul Moran was quoted to have said “As with many gangs we encounter, their sole priority was financial gain. I am delighted that my team was able to intercept their operation, and I hope these convictions will serve as a warning to deceitful gangs who exploit people’s desperation to remain in the UK. “We will continue to work tirelessly to secure our borders and clamp down on the gangs who prey on vulnerable people to make money,” he assured.
The UK Home Office, acknowledges the moves by foreign nationals, to live in its land, but it insists that they must enter the country legally.
