The Nigerian Association Of Resident Doctors, has started a 7 day warning strike today August 26,2004
They are protesting against the abduction of their colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola nearly 8 months ago and she is still in the hands of her abductors.
Dr Dele Abdullahi,the NARD president said they took the decision to embark on strike at the Emergency National Executive Council meeting which held at midnight earlier today
Our investigations into the story, revealed that Dr Ganiyat Popoola is with the Ophthalmology Department of the National Eye Centre, Kaduna and sh was kidnapped December last year along with her husband and nephew. Her husband has been released but she is still held captive, with her nephew.
The doctors said that the warning strike will last for 7 days after which a total shutdown will begin, where no patient will be attended to, even in emergency
This comes as some Medical students from University of Maiduguri and University of Jos were kidnapped in Benue, while on their way to a conference in Enugu, bit thankfully they have been released on Saturday August 24.
There was no information available as regarding whether any ransom was paid for their release.
